GHAVFD is funded by private donations, grants, annual fund raising events (Ducky Derby and pancake breakfast), and contributions from residents from the Glen Haven Association and the Retreat Landowners Association.
GHAVFD is not a taxed fire district so we do not receive any monies as a result of taxes.
Donations can be mailed to: Glen Haven Area Volunteer Fire Department PO Box 53 Glen Haven, CO 80532
Yes.
The number of volunteer members fluctuates. The Department usually carries 20 to 24 active members and several reserve members. The flucuation is largely due to members either moving out of the area or retiring.
The minimum age is 18 years. There is no maximum age.
Absolutely! We offer basic training to all new members, both wildland and structural fire fighting. Emergency Medical training is available, too.
Applicants must be 18 years of age, have a valid Colorado Driver's License, be physically capable of performing the job, serve a 1 year probationary period during which they must become certified as Wild Land Fire Fighter and at some level of EMS.
Folks are encouraged to seek a seat on the Fire Department's Board of Directors (not hard to do!), or join the fine Auxiliary team.
The grant you refer to for 2007 is a FEMA Assistance to FireFighters Grant (AFG) award to GHAVFD for vehicle acquisition. The FEMA rules allow for 1 vehicle acquisition per department, period. The other trucks will have to be replaced either by using fund-raisers, or searching for other grant opportunities.
