Bigfoot seen Down Under

Hi from Down Under,

I couldn't resist christening your forum.

It was great to make contact with your Fire Department (Brigade in our terminology) and receive your patch from Lt. (Deputy Captain in our terminology) Greg Martin.

We have decided to up your patch with four of our patches (all inferior to your one) and a 50th Anniversary history CD of our brigade. I note that we are a bit older than you. These will be posted off to you shortly, so if you don't receive them please let me know.

We thought we would like to embark on a "fact finding" mission to Colorado. My stomach suggested Pancake Day, but it is far to close to arrange a government grant, so things will just have to wait! I hope you raise heaps on the day. My stomach will be with you in thought!

Look after yourselves,

Ian Iredale

Glenhaven Rural Fire Brigade President and Deputy Captain

Re: Bigfoot seen Down Under

Thanks for posting the first forum message!  Things are a little slow on our web site these days as you can tell from the response time.

Greg cooks a mean sausage on pancake day.  You guys are welcome anytime here in Colorado.

Take care,

Brian Russell

Re: Bigfoot seen Down Under

Ian, we were all curious as to the Bigfoot Down Under sighting.  Have there been any sightings since Lt. Martin left?  If not, I think the mystery is solved!  He is often mistaken for many things, in fact, we had a bigfoot sighting near here shortly after he returned from Down Under!

We did receive your patches and the CD.  Looks as if you folks had about a 10 year jump on us in terms of longevity.  The breakfast was a great success last summer, we broke the pancakes served record from previous years.  Now everyone wants to get another breakfast underway soon!

Any of you are more than welcome any time you can make the trip!  We'll show you a great time in the Rockies.  Let us know if your plans work out, we'll set out the welcome mat for you!  In the meantime, enjoy you summer.  As you know, we're in the grips of winter here in the high country.  We have received about 4 inches of snow via daily flurries this past week, with more coming today.  That is not alot of snow, but with the cold temperatures, none of it has been able to melt off roadways, making them quite slick.  We look forward to hearing from you again!

Re: Bigfoot seen Down Under

Steve,

I just received your brigades Xmas message via email and sent off a reply. After that I visited your website and noticed your big new red Xmas present! I am sure it will make a huge difference to your fire fighting capabilities.

Very glad that you received our patches and CD. All our members are keen to maintain the contact and find out what is happening on the other side of the world.

We also would like to extend a warm welcome to any of your members that venture over to Sydney. Unforutnately when you emailed us regarding Lt. Martin's visit this year it went to an email address that does not get checked regularly, and his visit was upon us before we could do anything. Our brigade is situated about a 45min drive from the Sydney CBD (outside peak hours) and public transport requires a few connections which makes it difficult. Please give us plenty of notice and we should be able to arrange pickup from our closest railway station.

We are now in the middle of our fire season, but so far have had mainly rain and storm damage. The brigade has spent a few days cutting trees of houses and roads, after a violent hail storm lashed Glenhaven on Sunday 9th December. Most of our members cars got damaged in this storm!

We trust your members all have a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.

Ian Iredale, President and Deputy Captain, Glenhaven Rural Fire Brigade
