My Heros

My Heros: Last night I happened to turned my police scanner on about 8:00 pm or so and heard the Estes Park Police Department dispatch their fire department to a structure fire out on Hwy 66 near the YMCA of the ROckies.  Because of the poor road conditions and the fact it was a Friday night it seemed they were working very hard to get to this house that was apparently full of smoke and on fire.  Once the EP fire department arrived it must have been critical enough they called for a back up tanker from Glen Haven and Allenspark.  My heart jumped to my throat when I heard our Glen Haven Firemen respond immediately and said they were en route from Glen Haven.  The new Glen Haven tanker clears the building by 5/8" and it was a Friday night in sub zero temperatures on 8+ miles of roads up the switchs backs and passed Estes Park on snow packed and icy cold conditions.   Ultimately, the EP fire department cancelled their call for a back up tanker.  I asked myself what it must be like to be half way up the switch backs in a 38,000 lb fire vehicle fully loaded on the darkest and coldest of night.  These are the same people who come to your house when you are having a problem breathing or walking.  I want to say thank you again and again as they are volunteers and my very best heros.
